Correlations on the eruptive behaviour of the volcano of Capelinhos (Fayal island) in 1957 58, with (a) solar activity, and (b) earth-tide amplitudes, by way of a graphical analysis in this communication, are investigated. On the graphical record of the eruptive phenomena, the periodic feature of the earth-tide movements on the « vulcanian » phase was almost always apparent and the solar activity effects, although outstanding and basically more important, were modulated on the earth-tide phenomenon. On the « strombolian » phase, the influence of the solar activity was remarkably predominant. Rarely was necessary to search other phenomena to explain the behaviour of the eruptions. For those few cases, (c) local conditions on the vents and faults of the crust, and (d) change on the kind or physical state of the ejections, are suggested. On the other hand, the conjugation in September 1957 of (e) exceptional solar activity, which is always more effective for the globe in the equinoxes, with (f) very important equinoctial earth-tides because a very high value for the lunar monthly component (Mm) lied in September 23, 1957, lead us to suggest such a circunstance as significant in the rise of the volcano.
