The measurement of the 1.8 MeV gamma radiation of 26Al in the Vela region by the Compton telescope COMPTEL is discussed. An emission maximum is found at the position of the Vela supernova remnant. A weaker intensity is near the Wolf-Rayet stars WR 11. Other potential 1.8 MeV sources in the Vela region are investigated, distances are determined and gamma fluxes are estimated on the basis of nucleosynthesis theories.
