The average direction of motion of 'peaks' in ionospheric auroral absorption events changes with local time in a manner similar to that of the direction of propagation of auroral infrasonic bow waves (AIW) as observed in the auroral zone. A study of the morphology of motions of auroral absorption peaks can thus give information on the variation with local time of the motion of auroral arcs that generated AIW.
