A model for the X-ray spectrum of Cyg-X is developed assuming a spherical accretion flow. The Joule heating arising from field line reconnection and heating by a viscous dissipation mechanism due to magnetohydrodynamic and plasma turbulence are included in the analysis, and equipartition magnetic fields are considered. The magnitude of the heat input per unit volume is estimated from the condition that the magnetic energy content in the same volume be dissipated in the Alfven time scale. The magnetic-turbulent energy resulting from excitation of the turbulent field by field line reconnection and plasma instabilities must be dissipated, ensuring the conversion of gravitational energy into heat at all radii down to the Schwarzschild radius without invocation of a solid surface to halt the flow. The Compton scattering disk calculation reported by Shapiro is adapted to the spherical case by selection of similar parameters and consideration of the cyclotron mechanism in place of an arbitrarily soft photon source or recapture of radiation.
