Graphical relations are presented which allow the determination of Voigt profile parameters of an observed spectral line using its deviations from a best fitting Gaussian profile (in the case where the damping width does not exceed the Gaussian width of the line). Similar relations are also given for an 'exponential' profile; i.e., one resulting from the convolution of a Gaussian term with an exponential term. An actual observed line is used to demonstrate the application of these relations.
