We derive the transfer equations of the Stokes parameters for a line with hyperfine structure in the presence of a magnetic field, both in LTE and NLTE. The effect of unresolved hyperfine structure on magnetographic determinations of solar magnetic fields is considered in the limiting case of small magnetic fields. An example is given on the determination of the Eu abundance in magnetic stars. It is shown that the combined effects of hyperfine structure and magnetic field may lower the measured abundance by as much as 2.5 dex.
