Equation of state restrictions on the optical pulsar, 1968.629 Hz, in the remanant of SN 1987A are examined. The possibilities of delayed emission of gravitational radiation are reviewed. It is suggested that, if the neutron star formed during the original supernova explosion was born rapidly rotating, then it might subsequently collapse to a black hole after losing sufficient angular momentum. The results imply that, for the conventional equation of state, the new pulsar will collapse after a relatively short lifetime.
