Observational studies of possible planetary systems of other stars are reviewed. Stars that are candidates for planetary systems and the possible masses of planets that their systems might contain are listed. The evolution of disks around young stars is discussed in relation to the theory of planetary formation. IRAS and ground-based observations of Beta Pictoris showing the presence of circumstellar dust around this object are given as evidence that Beta Pictoris is probably developing a planetary system. Also, consideration is given to the prospects for future research on candidate planetary systems, including observations by the Hubble Space Telescope.
