The 'Hilda' minor planets have a mean semimajor axis of 3.9 AU and an orbital period which is almost exactly two-thirds that of Jupiter. They arouse interest because of the possibility that newly-captured comets are intermingled within the group. Accounts are presently given of current understanding concerning the Hildas' physical characteristics and taxonomy; they are suggested to have been formed from material left over from the formation of comets. There has not, however, been distinct cometlike activity among the Hildas.
