It is hypothesized that during small elongations at inferior conjunction, a substantial contribution to the radiation of Venus is made by Fresnel reflection of the sun from that planet's atmosphere. It is noted that such reflection would create a flash at earth of the order of zero magnitude. The possibility of observing this effect with ground-based and satellite-borne coronographs is considered. It is shown that a ground-based coronograph with a resolution of at least 2 sec or a satellite-borne instrument with a resolution of at least 15 sec would be required for such observations. It is suggested that a mirror reflection of the sun's image from the Venusian atmosphere could be obtained only by a spacecraft launched in the direction of Venus.-
