A brief summary is presented of those properties of pulsars and binary X-ray sources that seem most directly relevant to the actual structure of neutron stars and the effects of ultrastrong magnetic fields. The discussion focuses on mass determinations for the X-ray sources Her X-1 and Cen X-3, estimates of the moments of inertia of the Crab pulsar and the pulsar JP 1953, and studies of pulsar surface magnetic fields. Other properties mentioned include the rigidity of a neutron star's crust, seismic activity (glitches, crustquakes, and microquakes), and pulsar wobble (similar in some ways to free precession).-
