The paper discusses some problems stemming from observations, which have led to modifications of existing relativistic cosmological theories or new theories independent of general relativity. Observations tend to suggest that the condition of homogeneity and isotropy of the universe is not fulfilled. The redshift of galaxies is not necessarily related to their recession, at least when one considers certain groups of objects, of apparently the same distance to earth, with different recession velocities calculated according to the usual formula. When the value of z is near unity, the velocity is a complicated function, depending on how the notion of distance is defined. It is believed by some that a model of the universe must be able to account for the problem of the arrow of time. The modification of the relativistic model in order to introduce 3-K thermal radiation is briefly outlined.
