An analysis of the thermal phase of carbon burning in carbon-oxygen and carbon cores is performed, taking into account electron heat conductivity and convection in the mixing length approximation, roughly accounting for nonstationarity. It is shown that under maximum efficiency of convective energy transfer, temperature increases in a region corresponding to the first five mass points. Numerical calculations suggest that further hydrodynamic flash of a supernova occurs in the form of pulsational stellar instability and proceeds in deflagration regime.
