The subreflector and the supporting legs have a pronounced effect on the antenna characteristics in dual reflector systems. Approximate calculations are based on the zero-field concept which assumes a complete absorption of the received power by the subreflector and its supports. A description is given of an investigation in which the distant field near the axis of a circular aperture is computed and compared with measured data. The investigation makes use of the zero-field concept. The representation of the structural shadows is more accurate than in earlier studies.
