For the assessment of the relative importance of the inverse Compton scattering process in galactic medium-energy gamma-ray production, a precise evaluation of the local source function is provided. The improved precision with respect to existing estimates relies on the local photon field description, taken from recent data including the few available far-IR ones, and on an exact integration over a realistic electron spectrum with its characteristic 'break'. The results are presented as integral gamma-ray production spectra in the energy interval from 1 MeV to 1 GeV.
