The usual expression for the potential energy of a polytropic sphere is indeterminate when the index n is equal to 5. However since some globular clusters have a density distribution resembling the n = 5 polytrope it seems of interest to compute this value and express it in terms of more appropriate parameters. The aim of this paper is to analyze this issue.
