Scientific paper

An analysis is made of variations of the refraction angle and refractive attenuation of the radio waves during the radio sounding of the polar atmosphere of Venus from Veneras 15 and 16. A table of values of the refraction angle and of the reduced refractive index of the atmosphere at various altitudes is presented. Height profiles of the atmospheric refractive index in the polar and equatorial regions of the planet are compared, and the effect of various layers of the atmosphere on the refraction angle and refractive attenuation is evaluated.
