The NOAA 2 satellite has observed the occurrence of relatively isotropic fluxes of protons with energies of 0.27 MeV and above in the evening sector of the polar caps on over 90 passes during the period December 1972 through December 1973. These protons have been observed at intensities of more than 100,000/sq cm s or MeV with power law spectral indices in the range of -5 to -7. Their similarity of characteristics and occurrence identify them with corresponding impulsive proton bursts occurring in the dusk magnetotail reported by others.
