Concurrent data from Vela satellites (5 and 6), one in the solar wind, the other in the magnetosheath, and from Explorer 35, further down the flank of the bow shock, are used to study the propagation of low-energy (not exceeding 1 MeV) solar protons in the solar wind and the magnetosheath during the event of April 16, 1970. The intensities as measured by the three spacecraft are correlated, and the pitch angle distributions as observed by the Vela satellites are presented. An unusual interplanetary anisotropy which can be considered the sum of a unidirectional and a bidirectional component was also observed.
