Periodic traveling waves induced by internal nonradial pulsations are shown quantitatively to reproduce variations in line profiles observed in three B stars. These stars appear to be members of a general class of early B stars which show small short-time-scale variability in line width and asymmetry and which are presumably related to the Beta Cephei stars. The spectral types affected range at least from O8 to B5. Young B stars are probably also included in this class. It is demonstrated that traveling waves also account for the large variations in line shape observed in at least three Beta Cephei stars. Typical pulsational amplitudes are 5 to 25 km/s. The results suggest that it should be possible to disentangle various physical effects such as multiperiod beating and observer aspect from analysis of the profiles at certain phases.
