The stellar disk of a spiral galaxy is modeled as a gas disk. Weakly nonlinear self-consistent solutions for wave profiles of tightly wound spiral density waves are obtained, along with the appropriate dispersion relation. The formation mechanism and existence criterion for tightly wound stellar spiral density waves are considered. It is shown that such spiral density waves can be formed only if the gas/star surface-density ratio is greater than some factor of the sound-velocity ratio.
