U, V, B and R photographic surface photometry is presented for five luminosity class II and one luminosity class III galaxies. A well-defined outer exponential component is present in the luminosity distributions of all six galaxies. It is probable that the gross structure of these galaxies is determined by their spiral arms and that the outer component is not a massive halo. From the available data there is evidence that anaemic spirals are systematically less massive than their 'ordinary' counterparts.
