Photometric and dynamic studies (performed with the 3.6-m ESO telescope) of NGC 1313 show that this barred spiral galaxy rotates about a center located completely outside the bar. The strongly eccentric, rapid, 'solid-body' rotation of the bar could be responsible for the peculiar shape of this galaxy. Several regions in the southern part of the galaxy appear to be independent of the main structure.
