Transfer of radiation through a shell of increasing radius and decreasing optical thickness in the absence of radiative equilibrium is considered. It is assumed that energy is supplied to the shell in an original explosion and then in accordance with a definite law from the star. The luminosity of the shell is determined. In their general features, the obtained light curves agree with the observed curves. The optical thickness of the shell at the light maximum and the mass of the shell are estimated. For type I supernovae, the corresponding values are 15 and 0.4 solar mass.
