The excitation of the possible nonradial oscillations of supergiant stars is still a puzzle. A nonradial, nonadiabatic stability analysis is performed on a series of stellar envelope models of varying mass. A number of excited low-order modes are found. The modes are excited by mode interaction which is found in luminous stars with extended envelopes. Observational consequences are discussed.
