The article gives a schematic description of how millisecond pulsars are related to timescales. It begins by reviewing the various existing astronomical and atomic timescales, and goes on to explain precisely what millisecond pulsars are. In fact they constitute a separate category in the pulsar family. Finally, the metrological applications of these stars is examined, to give a partial answer to the question of how millisecond pulsars contribute to the measurement of time.
