Findings from a study of the metallicity of Hyades members by observing 12 F dwarfs in the blue region are discussed. The evaluation of the atmospheric parameters of an F star is reviewed, and the iron spectrum of the Hyades F dwarfs is addressed. The effective temperatures of six of the dwarfs coincide with the value of 6500 K accepted for the spectrophotometric standard Procyon, while the equivalent widths of the metal lines indicate that the dwarfs and Procyon have similar metallicities. Model atmosphere line calculations performed for selected Fe I and Fe II lines show an anomalous enhancement of the broader saturated metal lines. Accordingly, it is premature to regard the departure of Hyades F-dwarf color indices from the intrinsic color sequence as direct evidence that Hyades star atmospheres are metal-rich.
