A new strong OH maser and a broad HI absorption line have been detected in the peculiar galaxy Mrk 273 with the Nancay radio telescope as part of a survey of galaxies with strong infra-red emission. Mrk 273 has most of its properties comparable to those of the 3 other galaxies in which powerful OH megamasers have been detected: continuum flux, broad emission component in the OH main line, very broad HI absorption line, high value of the IR to blue luminosity ratio. It can be interpreted with the continuum amplification model (Baan and Haschick, 1984; Baan, 1985) according to which the maser emission is due to the amplification of the radio continuum emission in the nucleus by foreground molecular clouds.
