Analyses are performed to determine the role of plasma turbulence in the accretion of gas onto compact objects such as neutron stars and black holes. It is shown that excitation of plasma turbulence during the accretion process will intensify the electromagnetic radiation, increase the efficiency of accretion, and accelerate electrons to ultrarelativistic energies. It is found that accretion onto a nonmagnetic object will generate radiation with a sharp maximum in the infrared, while accretion onto an object with a strong magnetic field will generate radiation with a maximum in the X-ray region.
