Two scenarios are described which attempt to reconcile the observed
photospheric abundances with model predictions for the R Coronae
Borealis (R CrB) stars. These scenarios are: the last thermal pulse
scenario (Renzini, 1979, 1981 and Iben et al., 1983) and the merged
white dwarf scenario (Webbink, 1984).
