Published UBV photometry and radial velocity data for 16 Cepheids have been analyzed to obtain the slope of the visual surface brightness-intrinsic color relation for each Cepheid. The slopes given by the long- and short-period Cepheids are compared, and, in contrast to the conclusion which could be drawn from the work of Schmidt (1973), no significant difference is found. The 16 Cepheids give a mean slope of about 2.11. This result is compared with the values predicted by the various temperature and bolometric correction scales for Cepheids, and it is found to be in good agreement with the scales proposed by Kraft (1961).
