The CfA survey is directly compared with a diameter-limited sample covering the southern sky (UDLS, Bardelli et al., 1991) in order to determine whether the differences between the Southern Sky Redshift Survey (SSRS) and the CfA survey are induced by different selection criteria. The statistical properties of the CfA and the UDLS catalogs are analyzed through various tests, such as the two-point correlation function, the percolation analysis, and the multiplicity function. The filamentary properties are examined using the Minimal Spanning Tree technique and the void distribution through the Nearest Neighbor Statistics and the Void Probability Function. It is deduced that second-order differences are not present between the CfA and the UDLS catalogs, but the UDLS galaxies are more spread out among the structures, which therefore appear more filamentary. The results of the comparison between the CfA and the SSRS made by Pellegrini et al. (1990) are confirmed, and some general properties of diameter-limited samples are outlined.
