The flavor dependence of quark polarizations in the nucleon have been extracted from data taken by the HERMES experiment using the 27.5 GeV beam of longitudinally polarized positrons in the HERA storage ring at DESY, and longitudinally polarized targets of hydrogen and deuterium. Inclusive spin asymmetries and semi-inclusive spin asymmetries for positive and negative pions and kaons are included in a global analysis which assumes a five component decomposition of quark spin, ie u, ubar, d, dbar, and (s+sbar). Factorization into parton distributions and fragmentation functions is assumed in the relation between the measured asymmetries and quark polarizations. The resulting coefficients or "purities" include effects of experimental acceptance, and are determined with a Monte Carlo simulation of the experiment which uses a conventional QCD event generator and CTEQ low Q**2 parton distributions. An independent two-component purity analysis using only the deuteron inclusive and total kaon semi-inclusive asymmetries provides an independent check on results for polarization of the strange sea. The latest results using both extraction methods will be presented.
