We consider applications of a hadronic model based on a chirally invariant ansatz including the strangeness degree of freedom. After fitting the parameters to reproduce hadron masses in the vacuum and nuclear matter saturation, properties of spherical and deformed nuclei as well as of hypernuclei are calculated. Within the same approach we study highly excited matter as created in heavy-ion collisions as well as dense neutron star matter. Possible extensions of the approach will be discussed.
