The focusing properties of very simple non-Schwarzschild gravitational fields are investigated. It is shown analytically that such gravitational lenses may possess some rather unusual nontrivial properties. In particular, the existence of two-dimensional caustics is demonstrated. It is noted that the properties of such caustics must be taken into account when estimating the probability of observing gravitational-lensing effects. Some errors and inaccuracies in previous papers on this topic are pointed out.
