The Constellation-X mission represents a huge increase in capability over current X-ray spectroscopy missions with a 60 fold increase in collecting area and a 6 fold increase in resolving power over Astro-E2/XRS. In addition, the soft x-ray instrument has substantially better imaging capability over Astro-E2/XRS with a 1000 pixel versus a 32 pixel microcalorimeter array. One promising technology under study for meeting these goals is a microcalorimeter array using superconducting transition edge sensors(TES-microcalorimeter). Recent results with these devices have shown that many of the individual building blocks exist for building the Constellation-X focal plane array including single pixel resolution, compact pixel designs, and readout electronics. In this poster we discuss our recent results and the challenges we still face in producing a demonstration model microcalorimeter array.
