The matter distribution of strongly nonlinear scales in a CDM model is investigated by determining the count probabilities in an unbiased catalog generated with a P3M simulation code developed by Davis and Efstathiou (1988) and by comparing the results with the predictions of the scale-invariant model introduced by Balian and Schaeffer (1988, 1989) and those of the thermodynamical model introduced by Saslaw (1985, 1989). The probability of finding a given amount of matter, i.e., N particles in a specified volume, is found to be a power law with a lower and an upper cutoff. A phenomenological model is proposed that is compatible with the data as well as with all the theoretical constants.
