We present X-ray images from a 78 ksec Chandra observation of a field in Selected Survey Area 22 known to contain an overdensity of Lyman-break galaxies, as well as two extended, luminous Lyman-alpha "blobs" at redshift z=3.1. One of these blobs has previously been detected in the submillimeter. Our Chandra upper limits on the X-ray emission from the Lyman-alpha blobs imply that they are unlikely to be excited by even highly-obscured active galactic nuclei. We compare the spectral energy distributions of the Lyman-break galaxies associated with the Lyman-alpha blobs to those nearby of ultraluminous infrared galaxies. We consider the implications of our Chandra upper limits for previously-proposed models of blob excitation, including starburst-driven winds and cooling radiation.
