The optimum method for reduction of the UBV observations is described. The simulation for the quantitative comparison of the optimum reduction scheme and those described by Hardie (1962) and by Harris et al. (1981) are used. The optimum method yields significantly smaller scatter of residuals and smaller errors of the extinction and transformation coefficients. Employing the optimum method, one can correct observations for effects of extinction and transformation with good accuracy while using reduced number of standard stars observations. Additionally, the use of the method enables more sensitive tests for nonrandom errors in observations than hitherto.
