Quasars have been used as distant light sources to search for intervening matter. Untill recently, this technique has been used in the optical and UV bands only. The high resolution spectroscopy available with Chandra X-ray Obervatory allows a new probe of the intervening matter in the X-ray band. I will present data and discuss results based on Chandra observations of a quasar.
