The PHENIX central arm detectors measure charged particle multiplicty in the mid-rapidity in the pseudo-rapidity window of Δη = 0.7 unit. The PHENIX multiplicity was measured for Au + Au collisions at √ s_NN = 130 GeV and at √ s_NN = 200 GeV. The difference of the local charged multiplicity fluctuations between the hadronic gas and the QGP scenario can be an important probe of the formation of QGP at RHIC energies. The results of the local charged multiplicity fluctuations in the η-space using a multi-resolution wavelet technique will be discussed for the PHENIX reconstructed tracks.
