The Galileo mission, part of the NASA Lunar and Planetary Exploration Program, which is intended to put a space vehicle in orbit and to introduce an entry probe into the atmosphere of Jupiter is outlined. The chemical composition and the dynamic structure of Jupiter's atmosphere, the dynamics of Jupiter's magnetosphere and the morphologic and geologic status of Jupiter's moons are investigated. Low energy proton and electron measurements in the magnetosphere, radio and plasma waves analysis, evaluation of the distribution of high energy protons and electrons in the Jupiter system are carried out. The gas distribution is analyzed by measurement of the molecular weight. The hydrogen/helium ratio in the atmosphere is measured.
