We obtain differential cross sections as a function of the laboratory angle of the outgoing Λ for the reaction μ^- + p--> Λ + ν_μ for a variety of incident muon energies from threshold to 6.0 GeV. We obtain the contributions of the various form factors to the differential cross section and show that the importance of the pseudoscalar form factor increases in the region near threshold. We compare our results with those for the reaction e^- + p--> Λ + ν_e. We note that the reaction under consideration is a strangeness changing weak reaction and that these have not been well studied in this energy range.
