The Large Area Telescope (LAT), a pair-conversion telescope that provides coverage over the approximate energy range 20 MeV - >300 GeV, is the principal instrument on the GLAST Mission. In this talk, the LAT’s measurement capabilities (angular resolution, large effective area, wide field-of-view, broad energy range, energy resolution, low deadtime/event) will be reviewed. The LAT will provide an unprecedented capability for high-energy astrophysics, with a sensitivity more than 40 times that of EGRET. Highlights of the physics and astrophysics opportunities the GLAST LAT will provide will be summarized.
