Knowledge of the astrophysical ^18F(p,α)^15O rate is important for understanding gamma-ray emission from novae and heavy-element production in x-ray bursts. A resonance at E_c.m.=330 keV in the ^18F(p,α)^15O reaction is believed to dominate the rate at nova temperatures. We report on the first precise determination of the strength of this important resonance. We measured the ^18F(p,α)^15O cross section on and off resonance using a radioactive ^18F beam at the ORNL Holifield Radioactive Ion Beam Facility and detecting the reaction products in the Silicon Detector Array (SIDAR). Our experimental method and results will be discussed.
