The normalization of the ^7Be(p,γ)^8B cross section at solar energies is an important source of uncertainty in the predicted ^8B solar neutrino flux. Recent measurements using a ^7Be target report values for the zero-energy S-factor that differ by >20ěrb+[1]. Thus, we will measure the ^7Be(p,γ)^8B cross section in inverse kinematics at ORNL's Holifield Radioactive Ion Beam Facility (HRIBF). Here we would use a ^7Be ion beam and a differentially pumped windowless gas target. Recoil ^8B nuclei are then separated from beam particles on the basis of velocity by the Daresbury Recoil Separator (DRS), and are counted in a gas-filled ion counter. We will report on the status of this project: Ion source development is underway, and commissioning of the DRS and gas target is nearly complete. First experimental results are expected in late 2002.
