Possible scenarios for recently observed X-ray line emission, usually interpreted as iron, will be considered. In particular, we consider the possibility that the lines originate from nickel or cobalt, instead of iron. Nickel production would occur naturally in the hypernova/collapsar model of gamma ray bursts. Future observations of these lines could give us clues to the gamma-ray burst environment.
