X-ray flashes (XRFs) are a new type of fast transient source observed with the BeppoSAX Wide Field Cameras (WFC) at a rate of about four per year. They are similar to classical gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) except for a large fraction of emission in 2--26 keV X rays. We use combined observations from WFC and CGRO-BATSE to compare the spectral and temporal properties of 10 XRFs to those of gamma-ray bursts. We find that the bulk properties of XRFs are similar to GRBs, supporting the idea that they are related to the same type of source objects.
