Recent Chandra observations have shown conclusively that AGN jets can emit high-energy radiation at large distances from the AGN's central black hole. The exact origin of this emission is still a puzzle. I will review critically the current theoretical explanations for this emission and will explore the implications of the emission for the energetics and structure of an AGN jet.
