The present status and prospects of space infrared astronomy are briefly discussed. The next generation of space infrared telescope is examined by briefly considering the characteristics of Infrared Space Observatory of ESA and the Space Infrared Telescope Facility of NASA. Technical goals for passively-cooled orbiting infrared observatory telescopes are discussed.
